The Evolution of the ButterflySoldering the settingPrevious | Home | Next |

There are certainly different ways to
solder a setting. What i do is to flux the piece on the inside, and place
solder chips, usually of a lower melting temperature solder in the middle,
around the edge. It is very important to heat the entire setting and the
area around it evenly or you could easily melt the bezel before the plate
is warm enough for the solder to flow. Once the solder begins to flow,
you can use the flame to draw the solder around the base of the bezel.
Solder will flow TOWARD the heat, so by moving the flame, you can draw
the solder around the base to fill any gaps. |
